VENUS (FRIDAY)

How do you spell love?

I spell it T-I-M-E with D-E-P-T-H. Each time I go into that deep dark cave, I come back out with gifts of priceless insights.

Venus is traditionally known as the (Roman) Goddess of Love & Beauty. It is the planetary ruler of both Taurus & Libra (I am Libra Sun & Taurus Moon... I revere luscious somatic experiences, being in the senses, and creating an aesthetically pleasing, harmonious environment).

Venus represents our “capacity to attract the people and things we love and value.” It is important to note that Venus is about ALL personal relationships, not just romance: our platonic, familial, sibling relationships and even our relationship to money + possessions (Taurus is very much about resources, material wealth etc). Perhaps what intrigues me the most about Venus is the story of Inanna, an ancient Sumerian story, and her descent into the underworld where her sketchy sister Ereshkigal is ruler. The story actually gets pretty violent but overall, there is a deep transformation that has to happen as Inanna is slowly stripped naked of her divine possessions.

To love is to co-create. Love is the power of creation - we are the fertile ground into which the seeds of life are planted - but our roots reach deep into the darkness, gathering nutrients that will feed the beauty above ground, making it way more than meets the eye at first glance. There is always a degree of pain in depth. But that is where the nutrients reside. To love, is also, to let go. The willingness to be vulnerable, stripped away of our exterior masks, and experience the transformational dance.

In the photo series, I progress from Fallen Inanna, to my Venus in Scorpio regenerative death transformation in a dark cave, to emerge as a hybrid demon goddess pouring water on my leg and down to my heel (Chiron anyone?)

I really identify with the need for depth in intellectual love and friendship (hello Venus in Scorpio!)...

I crave swimming in the depths of investigative experience rather than skimming the surface - my values call for depth.

It is not something I wish to change as I’ve come to accept it as a veritable superpower.

So, I absolutely believe that our Love and our values must be willing to explore the depths at some point in time. The Aphrodite Goddess is a surface distraction. Though I try to see the new age Divine Feminine “movement” amongst entrepreneurs as, more or less, positive awareness... I am keen to notice its faults, too. I am able to see where this powerful Feminine energy needs tending to and healing. As for romance, I am apt to think it is dead when really, it is only awakening and evolving. Instead of a loving, supportive partnership with the father of my children, I have had to re-claim my identity as a single mother and come into my values as a person and parent. I’ve had to re-generate a sense of self-worth + self-love in a painful challenge rife with uncertainty. I have had to learn how to calm my own rage.

For me, Venus energy asks: Where have your values lead you in life; how have they directed your choices, and how do you make sure you are in true alignment with your values, worth and self-love? How deep is your self-knowing?
